The Long Lake Area
The Lodge at Old Long Lake is located in the midst of Grand Traverse’ County’s numerous attractions and services. Located on the shore of Long Lake on a secluded road and surrounded by woods and water, we are twenty minutes west of Traverse City’s beautiful Cherry Capital Airport, close to award-winning Munson Hospital, and ten minutes from downtown Traverse City’s fine restaurants, shopping, festivals and entertainment.
Long Lake is legendary for its crystal clear waters, four beautiful islands, sandy bottom, sand bars, excellent fishing, boating and recreational water sports. Two fishing kayaks and tackle provide peaceful paddling and adventure on its waters. Bald eagles nesting at Long Lake are frequently seen soaring above the waves.
Interlochen Center for the Arts, which hosts a summer music festival and year-round performances by musicians and performing artists, is ten minutes to the south. See their website at www.interlochen.org for tickets and free performances.
Boat Rentals are available from American Boat Rental 231-645-1191
www.americanboatrentals.net. Be sure to get a map of the lake for depths. Shallow sand bars abound. Boat carefully, especially on summer weekends when recreational boaters abound are on the lake.
Public boat launches are located on the other side of the lake. Visit www.longlaketownship.com/parks for a detailed map and directions to one of the two public boat launches described below:
Gilbert Park on the opposite side of the lake offers a boat launch and dock outside of the swim area.
Crescent Shores Boat Launch
In addition to the boat launch located at Gilbert Park, which is a high traffic area, Long Lake Township offers a second boat launch located at the end of Crescent Shores Road, off of West Long Lake Road.
Winter at Long Lake
In wintertime, ice-skating, snowmobiling and cross country skiing are popular pastimes. Long Lake is fed by underground springs and should always be tested for ice safety before heading out onto it. Please be aware that ice thickness and safety are variable throughout the winter even during deep snow and below-freezing temperatures.
A website maintained by the Traverse City Visitor and Convention Bureau, offers numerous links to area attractions and resources. See

Nearby Leelanau Peninsula and Old Mission Peninsula offer stunningly beautiful views of Grand Traverse Bay and a number of fine wineries. Vineyard tours and tasting are highly recommended. Regional wine maps are available at the vineyards to guide you on your drive.
